Phoenix Asylum is pleased to announce Beginning to Advanced jewelry design, silversmith, and lampwork classes. Instructors, Danni and Emma, work individually with students or in small groups to ensure the best possible learning experience. Come in and play with us!

Beginning Stringing :: $40

In this 1-hour session students will learn the essential jewelry skill of stringing to create a necklace. Discover the versatility soft-flex! Learn how to secure your piece using a crimping tool and crimping beads. Bring your own beads. All other materials will be provided.

Wire Working for Beginners :: $50

Wire working can be intimidating at first! With the right tools and practice you can create stunning pieces. Learn the basic building blocks of professional jewelry creation including what materials to use and why. Students will make pair of earrings using sterling silver findings (provided). Bring your favorite beads. This is a 1 hour class.

Silk-Cord Knotting :: $50

Learn the classic time-honored technique of silk-cord knotting. Students will work side-by-side with their instructor for 1.5 hours to create their very own custom-made piece. A supply list will be provided so you can bring your own materials.

Sweet & Sassy Stamps :: $70

Using steel tool stamps, you will learn to hammer letters and numbers onto a sterling silver disc. In addition to stamping students will learn how to apply texture, oxidize, file, sand, and polish. Class runs 1.5 hours.

One sterling silver disc will be provided (more may be purchased upon request). Your custom, hand-crafted piece can be used in various jewelry applications such as earrings, bracelets or stand alone as sweet charms. So fun!

Soldered Jewelry for Beginners :: $90

Create unique gifts or something special for yourself. Learn the basics of soldering with an iron, what to use and why, how to achieve a smooth and shiny finish, and how to solder jump rings. This is a great workshop to experiment with soldering irons and create unique art. A glass-cutting tutorial will be provided for inquiring minds.

Bring your favorite scrapbook materials, old books, transparencies, antique cards, maps, letters, candy wrappers, lace, fabric, pressed flowers, photocopied pictures and stamps. All soldering materials, tools, and a grab-bag of patterned paper will be provided during the class. This is a 2-hour class.

Rings :: $50 per hour

Create your very own custom sterling silver ring. Students will learn how to size, saw, file, solder with a torch, apply texture, sand, and polish. More advanced classes in bezel stone setting are available. Sterling silver provided. Couples are welcome!

Is Flameworking For Me? :: $40

Class fee includes a 90 minute informational session on borosilicate lampwork for the absolute beginner. We talk about safety and setup of a lampwork studio, including ventilation, fireproof surfaces, eye protection, and proper handling of oxygen and propane tanks. Then you will get to watch a demo or two of your choice to see what is involved in the lampworking process, so you can make a well informed decision as to whether you want to take it to the next level!

Intro to Boro :: $50/hr materials included or $40/hr BYO materials

Learn basic borosilicate lampwork techniques on a minor burner to create beautiful pendants, marbles, sculptures, and more. Learn to pull stringers and cane, control the flame, fume with gold and silver, and use color rods, among other things.

Intermediate Boro Techniques :: $55/hr materials included or $45/hr BYO materials.

Got the basics down? Then join us for a more advanced class. Learn how to use dichroic to enhance your finished glass pieces, set synthetic opals inside glass, make reticello patterns, 3d flowers, and more. Shape your own lesson plan to achieve your individual goals as a lampwork artist.

Past projects have included repairs, bangles, pendants, decorative wire wrapping, and wedding jewelry design sessions.
